In recent clashes in Indian-administered Kashmir, Indian soldiers engaged in intense gun battles with rebels, resulting in one rebel’s death and escalating violence in the region. The violence has claimed the lives of tens of thousands, including civilians, rebels, and government forces. Since October, rebel groups and Indian forces have exchanged fire, with recent incidents including an army convoy attack and an assault on a construction camp, where seven people were killed. Additionally, a grenade attack in Srinagar last week injured 12 civilians, further increasing public fear.
In response to rising tensions, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attacks and urged security forces to address any vulnerabilities in their counter-terrorism efforts. On Wednesday, the Kashmir regional assembly passed a resolution demanding the restoration of Article 370, which provided partial autonomy to the region. The Indian government has firmly rejected this demand, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that no power can restore the special status that was revoked in 2019.
