“Om Puri’s Wife Nandita Recalls Actor’s Financial Struggles Before Buying Wedding Jewelry”

Date:

Om Puri’s Early Financial Challenges

Nandita Puri, the wife of late Bollywood icon Om Puri, recently opened up about the actor’s financial struggles during their early years of marriage. She revealed that Om Puri couldn’t afford a mangalsutra or wedding ring at the time of their wedding due to his financial difficulties.

A Difficult Start to Their Marriage

Om Puri, who had previously been married to Seema Kapoor, the sister of actor Annu Kapoor, tied the knot with Nandita in 1991. Nandita shared that when Om Puri married Seema, he had very little—only a flat and a small piece of land in Rajasthan, which he had to give to Seema during the initial months of their marriage.

A Heartfelt Promise

In an emotional conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Nandita recalled how Om Puri, despite his financial constraints, reassured her. He told her, “I don’t have money for a mangalsutra, but I have two hands, and I promise to make sure you are fine.” Nandita expressed that this promise meant everything to her and served as the foundation of their life together.

A Life-Changing Break in Hollywood

After months of hardship, Om Puri secured a significant role in the Hollywood romantic-horror film Wolf, starring Jack Nicholson. This success marked a turning point in their lives. Om Puri surprised Nandita by buying her a mangalsutra and wedding ring six to seven months after their marriage. He also treated her to a honeymoon in Los Angeles, converting their first-class tickets into two business class ones.

Marriage and Later Struggles

However, their marriage faced challenges, especially after the publication of Nandita’s biography of Om Puri. In 2017, Nandita filed a case of domestic violence against the actor, and Om Puri passed away later that same year.
