Incident Overview
In a distressing incident from Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh, a Class 6 student named Aditya Kushwaha has tragically lost vision in his left eye after being struck by a stick wielded by his teacher, Shailendra Tiwari. Despite undergoing two surgical procedures, Aditya’s eye remains irreparable.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on March 9, when Aditya was instructed by his teacher to summon some students who were playing outside. After failing to bring them in, Aditya reported back to Tiwari, who reacted angrily and hit him with a stick. Following the injury, the teacher initially took Aditya for treatment, administering eye drops and allowing him to rest in class. However, it was his classmates who informed his mother about the situation.
Aditya’s mother, Srimati, expressed her distress, stating that the stick thrown by the teacher struck her son’s eye, causing it to bleed. Despite their efforts to report the incident to the police, their complaint was not initially registered until the education department intervened.
Medical Intervention
After the incident, an eye examination conducted on April 15 confirmed the extent of the damage to Aditya’s eye. He was then referred to an eye hospital in Chitrakoot, where he underwent two surgeries. Unfortunately, doctors concluded that his eye could not be saved.
Teacher’s Attempt to Settle
In a troubling turn of events, the teacher reportedly offered Aditya’s family ₹10 lakh to suppress the issue, which they declined.
Official Response
With the involvement of the district child welfare committee, a case has been registered against Shailendra Tiwari under the section pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt. Kamlendra Kushwaha, an official from the education department, stated that they have instructed the local education officer to compile a report on the incident. He assured that appropriate action would be taken once the report is received.
