Airlines in India have suspended flight services from more than 25 airports across northern and western regions due to rising tensions with Pakistan.
Major airports affected include Amritsar, located near Lahore, and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. Leading carriers like IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express have cancelled over 160 domestic and international flights. Some international flights have been diverted to Delhi as a safety measure.
India’s Civil Aviation Ministry has not released an official statement yet. However, the sudden shutdown follows India’s airstrikes on terror camps inside Pakistan, launched in response to a deadly attack in India-controlled Kashmir that killed 26 Indian tourists.
The strikes have pushed India-Pakistan relations to a crisis point. India has accused Pakistan of supporting the attackers, a claim that Islamabad denies. As a result, both countries have partially closed their airspace, impacting thousands of passengers and airport operations.
Passengers like Rahul, a businessman from Dubai, whose flight to Chandigarh was canceled, have had to adjust their travel plans. He said, “It’s a security matter. I understand.”
The flight cancellations are expected to continue until Saturday, affecting both domestic and international travel. Travelers are advised to stay in touch with airlines for updated schedules.
